Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to Common Personal Injury Questions
How do I know if I have a personal injury case?
If you have been injured in a road accident or suffered harm due to medical negligence, and it wasn't your fault, you may have a claim. Our team offers a free case assessment to help determine if you qualify - free of charge.
What damages can I claim in a personal injury
lawsuit?
A. Medical expenses (past and future)
B. Loss of earnings or earning potential (past and future)
C. General damages for pain, suffering, trauma and loss of quality of life
D. Funeral expenses, if claiming on behalf of a deceased loved one
E. Loss of support, if the person you depended on financially has passed away
How long do I have to file a personal injury claim?
In most cases, you have 3* years from the date of the accident or medical negligence to file a personal injury claim. However, there are exceptions:
- If the claim is against a state organisation (eg. Government school or hospital) you may need to give notice within 6 months.
- If the injured person is a minor or mentally incapacitated, different time limits may apply.
It’s always best to start the process as soon as possible - deadlines can be tricky, and missing one could mean losing your right to claim.
* Exception: For hit and run cases, you have 2 years to file a claim from the date of the accident

Can I negotiate with insurance companies on my
own?
Technically, yes - but it’s not recommended. Insurance companies often aim to settle quickly and for the lowest amount possible. Without legal guidance, you may accept less than you deserve. We know the law, the system, and how to maximise your compensation - and we’ll protect your rights every step of the way.
What evidence is crucial in a personal injury case?
A. Accident reports (e.g. police reports, hospital records)
B. Medical records and doctor’s notes
C. Photographs of injuries, the scene, or damaged property
D. Witness statements
E. Proof of expenses (medical bills, transport costs, loss of income)
F. Expert opinions, where necessary (e.g. medical specialists)
These items are essential to building the strongest possible case on your behalf. With Julyan Attorneys, you only pay once your case is won. Until then, we carry the financial burden so you can focus on your recovery, not the costs.
How much does hiring a personal injury attorney
cost?
We work on a no win, no fee basis - so you don’t pay anything upfront. Our fees are only deducted if we win your case, and we’ll explain the percentage clearly before we begin. If we don’t win, you don’t pay us. Simple, transparent, and risk-free.
